Ghost Dance News
Found footage: Celebrate Promo Video
Recorded from a TV broadcast back in 1989, the quality of the footage is a bit scratchy... not unlike the psychedelic, poptastic video itself. Thanks to Vicus for spotting this on YouTube. Wowzers.

Thanks to Vicus for the tip-off
Glasperlenspiel interview with Gary Marx - June 2003
The interview with Gary Marx was published in the rather marvellous Sisters fanzine Glasperlenspiel (GPS) in June 2003.
I've been given permission by the kind folk GPS to reproduce it here:
http://www.ghostdance.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=566
It may be a few years old now but it's still very interesting, and I think some of the comments are especially interesting given the things that have happened in the Sisters, Marx, Skellies & Anne-Marie camps in the intervening years.
Anne-Marie returns
This has been floating around the internet for a few weeks now:

PRESS RELEASE
Anne-Marie Hurst
Ghost Dance / Skeletal Family
Return of Influential Queen from the Vanguard of “Old Skool” Goth Rock.
After playing what was to unknowingly be her last major public performance with Ghost Dance in Amsterdam, December 4th 1989, and a hiatus from performing of almost 20 years. Lead vocalist Anne-Marie Hurst is back!!!
A chance meeting last year with Stan Greenwood (Guitarist with Skeletal Family, Anne-Marie’s band prior to Ghost Dance) led to discussions regarding the possibility of the pair working together again. The idea being, to simply write and play new material in an atmospheric, acoustic setting.
Early 2009 saw the pair participating in numerous rehearsals / song writing sessions, leading to a collection of songs the duo were eager to perform.
Fast forward to April 2009…… At a front room party session, in front of a handful of old friends, the new acoustic material was premiered to surprising outstanding applause.
The problem then lay, what to play next? Despite an initial unwritten agreement between the pair that no Skeletal Family / Ghost Dance material was to be involved, suggestions led to an attempt on a few of the old numbers. Despite not playing them together for 25 years, the reaction from both audience and performers alike to the ramshackle renditions was amazing.
Inspired, and cajoled by the favourable response, a rehearsal was set up with drum machine and bass sequencer. Due to a combined bout of technophobia and impatience this was quickly jettisoned in favour of human musicians.
The result, a four piece guitar band, playing songs from both Ghost Dance & Skeletal Family that have not been aired for two decades, plus new original material.
Anne-Marie is again eager to perform in front of audiences, and as such is in the process of arranging live performances for Autumn 2009.
With a back catalogue of three studio albums, numerous compilation cd’s and a plethora of top independent charting singles, including “Promised Land”, “The Grip Of Love”, and “River Of No Return”, an influential queen from the vanguard of “Old Skool” Goth Rock returns. |
Thanks for the tip-off, Vicus

We're Back!
After a slightly extended absence, I'm pleased to be able to announce that the Ghost Dance site is back and (hopefully) in full working order.
However, if you should happen to spot anything untoward, please drop me a private message via the Ghost Dance forum.
Phew.
Thanks for your patience,
Quiff Boy
RECORD COLLECTOR ARTICLE (update)
Joy Division, Siouxsie Sioux, but no sign of Ghost Dance.
Apologies to anyone who purchased the Record Collector magazine in good faith expecting to see the piece including news of Sisters and Ghost Dance rarities this month.
The good people at Record Collector now assure us it will feature in the November/December issue (yes, I know they are the same people who told us it would feature this month).
The full interview will feature here after the magazine's publication.

Stop The World (Mix)
Essentially this is the album track without the band: just Anne Marie, a bit of Gary's acoustic guitar, some piano and the synthetic string arrangement. |

That Guardian article
The Guardian article is available online here: clicky
The printed version has more pictures - The Sisters (circa 1984), Nick Fiend, Julianne Reagan & (for some reason) The Horrors.
Interview with Gary Marx in Friday's Guardian
The Friday 29th September 2006 edition of The Guardian "arts/media" supplement will have a feature on Goth.
As part of that feature there will be an interview with Gary Marx, guitarist, songwriter and founder member of The Sisters of Mercy & Ghost Dance.
The "Goth" article will also have photos of various genre bands, including Alien Sex Fiend, All About Eve, and the kings of "we're not Goth!" Goth, The Sisters of Mercy (early line-up, before you ask!).
So there. Buy Friday's Guardian

Clarendon Video Footage
Recently dusted this off and edited the original two camera footage down for your enjoyment - glad of any help confirming which of the Clarendon dates this was. If you spot yourself in the crowd scenes or happen to know when Nettie´s birthday is (A.M. makes a reference to it in between songs) this may provide the all important clue.
FIRST IT GIVETH
For reasons which it's not worth going into here, the re-packaged singles collection has been discontinued. Expect more news and additional downloads later this week.
Gathering Dust
G8, 2012, half a dozen bombs in London, whatever next ? If it's news you're looking for, you can finally get your hands on a CD copy of Gathering Dust - details of the first of the upcoming re-issues of back catalogue material can be found here.
Let's hear it for Luca
The downloads page has two welcome additions courtesy of our long-time associate - the tracks were but a dim and distant memory until Luca dropped a CD around GD HQ (easy with the initials Eugene). More of the set to follow this week.

** EDIT - 25th May **
A cover of The Only One's Another Girl, Another Planet has been added.
Easter
For all you trivia fans 'Ghost Dance ' is of course the title of a Patti Smith song featured on her 'Easter' album....
Anyway, we are slowly waking from our Winter lethargy and you should see some reward for your patience soon. In the short term there will be some new downloads of unreleased material added in the next few days.
September songs
You can tell a rock star's losing their looks when they start using photos of their feet for promo shots. The eagle-eyed among you may have spotted my big toe making a bid for immortality in the Image Gallery.
Elsewhere you may have spotted Richard Watson going uncredited for supplying us with the live at Reading tunes.
To make ammends we've added versions of Walk In My Shadow and Heaven And Beyond and the nearest we'll get to an apology. Another Richard (Hunter) came through with a live version of Gone, Gone, Gone which we've added to the audio downloads - if you listen to it twice you've heard it more times than any member of the band.
Lots more to follow including news of how to order our new t-shirts...
News update
You'll be pleased to learn there are now more rare tracks to listen to on the audio downloads page, new scrapbook images in the clippings section of the Image Gallery, and a handful of live photos taken at the Enger Forum in Bielefeld, Germany on 13.12.86 in the live section (thanks for those Luca). Image Gallery.
All go in the Ghost Dance camp!
15 years since the release of "Down To The Wire" the band are back.
As befits the modern age they won’t be turning out at the Rayleigh Pink Toothbrush any time soon, but you can follow what they’re up to here - for the moment theirs is a virtual re-union.
While this site has come into being largely to tie up loose ends and provide an outlet for the re-packaging of the band’s back-catalogue the current activity of the individual members will also feature.
With both Etch and Steve Smith threatening to release new material this year and Mr Marx still busy customising his auto-tuner, there could be a flurry of activity as we move towards the 20th anniversary of the band.
Trust us, the minute Anne-Marie starts back-combing her hair you’ll be the first to know.
